Another One!

The Environment Committee have received yet another green flag. This
is the fifth green flag the school has received. In order to get this
particular flag they had to create European awarness in the school.
The put up posters, carried out surveys, held poster and poems
competitions. All this paid off and they did a sufficient amount to be
awarded the green flag.

Mini Company Competition Success

After winning the mini company competition within the school Amy Conway and Jane Kiely are now going to the lifetime lab in cork this Friday the 23rd for yet another competition.

It is called ECO-UNESCO which is a young environmentalist’s award group. Their mini company is called clockwise and they specialise in making personalised clocks on old CDs. Due to the environmental link the green schools committee are going down as well to support them.

Laurel Hill – SnaG 2012 Song Translation Competition

Laurel Hill students  translated ‘Don’t Stop Believing’  into Irish in 2010, ‘It’s a little bit funny’ by Ellie Goulding in 2011, and this year you have the opportunity to translate ‘Next to me’ by Emeli Sandé into Irish. You don’t have to sing it, just translate it. It can be done in groups or as an individual. The teachers will then pick the best translation and it will be put into this year’s Laurel Hill Yearbook.

Laurel Hill Vs. Askeaton

On Friday 20th the Laurel Hill senior basketball team took on Askeaton at the University of Limerick. It was a tense match as Laurel Hill wanted to be guaranteed a place in the semi-final of the school league. Fortunately this was achieved by the team performing fantastically on the day which resulted in another win. We’re very proud of our team! Congratulations to the girls and thank you to Alison and Mrs. Enright for their preparation with the team and organising the day. Also wishing the cadet team the best of luck with their match on Monday!

Rotary Competition

On Thursday, eight girls from Laurel Hill participated in the Rotary Competition. The day was very successfully as soon as the cooking went underway. The participants had a choice of cooking a starter and a main course or a main course and a desert. The competition was held in the schools kitchen facilities and students were joined by the Head Chef in The Strand Hotel who was judging the competition. All the dishes were presented lovely and congratulations to all the girls that took part. Unfortunately there can only be one winner who was Emily Kennedy who shall go on to the next stage of the competition in Cork. She will be representing the school and we wish her all Good Luck!!

What A Day!!

Today 6 of our TopButton team were at the Junior Spider Awards. Namely Meaghan, Nicole, Erica, Natasha, Emily and Jane.  We were shortlisted for an award in the ‘Best Web Design’ Category. Unfortunately we did not win but that was not stopping us from having an unforgettable day!

We left Limerick Station at 6:00am to be there for nine, and it all left off from there. There were many exciting websites to be seen, and interesting people to meet. It can be said for all that we made a few friends! Natasha even won herself a Nintendo 3DS!  After an amazing Awards Ceremony, we left for the station and got in this evening at about 7!

We would like to say congratulations to our fellow school blog ‘Paisean le haghaidh Faisean’, hard luck to our fellow blog ‘Ar an gCúlráid’ and a big thank you to the teachers that accompanied us for the whole day Ms. Herlihey and Ms. Sheehan!
