First Year Hockey Blitz

TopButton would like to say a huge  “Well done” to all the first year students who took part in the first year hockey blitz in Crescent College Comprehensive on Wednesday September 26th.  At 8.50 am that morning, two buses set off  for Crescent Comp, the students all excited about the blitz.  The sun shone and great hockey  was played right through out the day. Well done to all involved, including the transition years who were the team managers and selectors for the day. We are now looking forward to the leagues ahead this year.

Laurel Hill Open Night.

Laurel Hill hosted it’s annual open night on the 26th September from 7pm to 9pm. Eagar young girls from 6th class along with their parents gathered in the Chapel where they recieved a talk on why their daughters should attend Laurel Hill. So many people arrived they had to fill the chapel 3 times! Then they were split into groups and given tour guides and sent to explore the school! Some groups came to visit me in the TopButton headquarters where I gave them a talk about TopButton and what our aims are. Many people were interested and felt it is a great idea! The groups then got to see a great performance of “Jitterbug” and “Time of my Life” from our musical cast who will be performing “Back to the 80s” in November.

From what I heard the parents and children enjoyed the open night, the only complaint I heard was about the stairs but that is to be expected!
Thank you to everyone who helped out and made it a sucessful night.

First Year Trip to UL

On the 17th and 18th of April all the first years took part in a day trip to UL. They participated in both indoor and outdoor activities which included kayaking, canoeing, rafting, obstacle courses and orienteering. Although both of the days started off wet and dreary the girls continued to take part in all the fun and games. They arrived home wet, tired and cold but all they had to say was that it was great fun and they would do it all again.

Thanks to all who helped to organise it!

First Year Celtic Studies!

On the 7th of March Loyola 4 class held a Celtic Studies Day for first years in the concert hall. Three of the classes were brought to the concert hall during classes after lunch, here they saw some art work done by Loyola and Victoire 4 classes. This included dolls dressed in Celtic clothing, raths, crannógs and hillforts! There was also story telling and a quiz as the first years study celts in history. We hope they enjoyed their day 🙂

Play by fourth year for first year

A member of the Paul Partnership committee, came to the forth year classes, of Laurel Hill, to organize a play for the first year classes. Victoire 4 was the first class to participate in this play on the 18th of November, Patrick 4 went on the 23rd of November and Loyola 4 will be taking part in this play on the 2nd of December. These plays benefit the students in our school by making them more aware about bullying, discrimination and prejudice. The plays are made up of many short scenes about people being bullied and how they are wrong. This play was also a good chance for forth year students to act and show more of their personalities. I found this opportunity to be a wonderful experience and very enjoyable
