The Laurel Hill Junior football team played Blackwater in the Munster championship on Monday 23rd of January in Bansha. Our expectations on the way to the match weren’t very high as it was a Munster semi-final and we were all very nervous. The match was played in ideal conditions for this time of year! At the end of the first half we were 2 points down but with encouraging words from Miss Creavan at half time we all felt we could go out into the second half and win the game! The second half was tit for tat! We got back to level terms with five minutes to go and went a point up just before full time but unfortunately Blackwater leveled to bring the game to extra time. This was very tough on both sides as it was our first game after Christmas! Fortunately we were the fitter team and went on to win the game. We now face a Munster Final at a date and venue to be decided! On behalf of the Junior team, we’d like to thank all the new girls who came along and helped us in our great victoy!
On behalf of the Senior football team in Laurel Hill, we would like say a huge thank you to Ms Craven and Mr Mc Carthy who have been training us since September. We honestly could not have asked for better people to train us during these past few months. They really are a credit to the school. We admire them so much for coming outside in the wet and rain just to train us on evenings where they could have been inside by the hot fire! So thanks again guys and this isnt the end for us, Bring on the Limerick Competition!
Last Thursday, the senior football team took on Kilrush in the Munster Quarter final in Clarecastle. It was a windy, wet day but luckily enough all that wind and rain was worth in it the end when the Laurel Hill girls won with a high score of 5.13-3.4. Everyone was over the moon especially our two soaked coaches Ms Craven and Mr Mc Carthy. Now, they’re through to the Munster Semi-Final and all the girls hope to capture victory once again!
Since we’ve came back to school, football training has already commenced. All the girls have had a few training sessions and they are all looking forward to a senior match which is taking place next week against Rockwell school in Tipperary.
Our trainings have taken place after school until 5pm with our coaches Ms. Craven and Mr. McCarthy. As winners of the Munster Final last year in division C, we have now moved up a division to division B and all the girls are hoping to capture victory once again.
New girls have joined from both our school and Coláiste so if any of ye were thinking about joining, it’s never too late. We are always looking for new team-mates and new friends to add to our close-net panel.
We will let ye know how we get on in our first senior match next week and fingers crossed it will be good news!
