Tá Seachtain na Gaeilge ag teacht agus i mbliana bhí smaoineamh nua ag na múinteoirí Gaeilge. Beidh amhrán téama againn do Sheachtain na Gaeilge agus beidh deis ag gach duine an t-amhrán seo a chanadh (b’fhéidir le chéile). Is é an t-amhrán ‘Glaoigh orm b’fhéidir’ le Carly Rae Jepson.
Is féidir linn tosnú ag cleachtadh anois.
Ach is é an cheist a chailíní ná AN FÉIDIR LIBH? Fág trácht ag bun an phostála seo ag insint dúinn cad a cheapann tú faoi?

Hello TopButton. Iníon Uí Iarlaithe here.
I am writing this because I want to make inform all the students of the war of words, and battle of wit that will take place next Tuesday in the Dromhall hotel in Killarney. It is a temendous achievement for the Irish Debating team to have reached the Munster Final. They are a very hardworking and focused group of girls and have reached this far through sheer determination and effort. They have used their fierce debating skills and superpowers of Irish grammar to reach this stage. They nearly got defeated by illness, but not even two vomiting bugs in rounds one and three could dampen their powers.
They will battle against one all-male Cork city school, one all-female cork city school and one mixed county Limerick school. Only one of the four schools willl reach the All-Ireland final which will be held in Dublin on the 21st March.
The motion is ‘Tá mórchinntí an rialtais seo ar leas an náisiúin’ (This Government’s major decisions will benefit the nation). Our girls will be against the motion. If you spot the debating team practising their debates in the hallways be sure to stop them and tell them what you think of the government. It will definately help them on their way.
Most of all I would like to ask anyone that is interested in attending the debate to give their name as soon as possible to Iníon de Bhál as time is not on our side for organising (hopefully) the best bunch of supporters that Comórtas an Phiarsiagh has ever seen. Just think of it as temendous practice for your own leaving cert and a chance to have a good long natter as Gaeilge with your friends. It’s not even every year that Laurel Hill can reach this stage.

Unfortunately due to a mix up in dates no-one in Laurel Hill, including TopButton were aware that Shannon Grimes had appeared as a guest on TG4′s Ponc XL show last night Tuesday the 8th. We had thought that it would be aired on Tuesaday the 12th, so we did not have a chance to advertise it before it was aired. We are lucky though to have acess to the TG4 player. To watch your fellow Laurel Hill student on TG4 all you have to do is click on the link below.

Bhí Cnoc na Labhras ar ‘Ponc XL’ inniu ag 5.55. Thaifead Ponc XL tarraing téide idir na múinteoirí agus na daltaí. Bhí mise, Iníon Uí Anragáin, Iníon Uí Laighléis, An tUasal Ó Criagáin agus an tUasal Ó Súilleabháin in aghaidh na ndaltaí. Bhuaigh na daltaí. Bhí an píosa beagáinín náíreach do na múinteoirí ach bhaineamar taitneamh as ag an am céanna. Ba mhaith liom buíochas a ghabháil do na daltaí iontacha go léir a ghlac páirt ann agus a bhain úsaíd as an nGaeilge iontach ata acu. ‘Is beatha Teanga í a labhairt’

On Monday 26th November, Laurel Hill’s Irish debating teams will be taking on three other secondary schools in the first round of Gael- Linn’s “Comórtas Díospóireachta an Phiarsaigh 2013″. Only three students from both our Junior and Senior teams may speak on the night. The junior team will be made up of third years Claire Dillon, Sinéad Mc Namara and Emily Kennedy whilst the Senior team will be transition year students Shannon Grimes and Rachel Warde along with fifth year Aislinn Twomey. Preparation for the debate has only just began with the junior team’s motion being “Droch- chultúr is ea an popchultúr!” who are in favour of the motion and the motion for the senior team being “Is ceart go mbeadh cead ag Seanadóirí agus ag Teachtaí Dála a rogha éadaí a chaitheamh i dTithe an Oireachtais!” who are against the motion.

Do you have the Spell Factor?

This year each first year will have the chance to fight it out in Laurel Hills Spellfactor. It is a tri-lingual spelling competition. Do you have what it takes to bowl the judges over with your English, Irish and French spelling skills. You will find the spellings in the links below. Each teacher will select a student in each language that will represent their class in the Spell-Factor final in the week coming up to the Christmas holidays
Go n-éirí libh go léir ó Iníon Uí Iarlaithe agus Iníon Uí Anragáin!
Good luck to all First Years!
